LAST THURSDAY: It's OUR Turn!

An exciting new unplugged open mike has been launched for high school and college age students at the Two Way Street Coffee House, 1047 Curtiss Street in downtown Downers Grove.

LAST THURSDAY: It's OUR Turn! offers an opportunity for creative expression. Music, poetry, and other performance arts are welcomed at this monthly event. It's a great chance to share ideas and perform in one of the best acoustic venues in the Chicago area.

The first in the new series was held February 24, 2000 with nine performers (and groups!) taking the stage before an enthusiastic audience. The Two Way Street crowd listened intently to introspective poetry, enjoyed excellent singer-songwriters, and rocked to some blazing guitar riffs!

LAST THURSDAY: It's OUR Turn! occurs on the last Thursday of every month, with the next scheduled on
October 30, 2008. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for signups, which are first come, first served. Performances are from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.

For more information, E-mail or call the Two Way Street at 630-969-9720 or 630-968-5526.
How it works:

Doors will open at 7:00pm. To perform, sign up on the sheet posted inside — first come, first served.

The house sound system and several mikes will be waiting on the stage. At 7:30, we'll introduce the first performer on the sign-up sheet, and then continue down the list.

The Two Way Street is a small place, and this series is not really intended for bands. Solos and small groups of two or three work best.

We welcome any instruments that can be set up quickly. Guitar, sax, keyboard, bass, kazoo, bagpipes — all cool. Small amps are OK and even small percussion; but please no drum kits — we don't have space or setup time. We have a grand piano.

Length of your time slot depends on how many performers show up. At least 10 minutes (a couple of songs), maybe longer. If you only want 5 minutes, that's cool too. If there's time left at the end, we may invite you to do another set.

This is a new series. If you have ideas on how to make it better, tell us!

Bring your friends! It's nice to have a friendly crowd to cheer your show. Refreshments are available: coffee, tea, soda, cider, cocoa, and snacks.
